Keyboard: arrow keys spin the globe, + and − zoom, Enter drops the pin at the centre.
No labels. Just the globe.
Know where in the world it is?
Spin the globe, tap once, and see how many kilometres you were off. Five cities, up to 1,000 points, as many runs as you want.
Read the prompt
A city and its country appear over the globe. The map shows coastlines and borders, but no names.
Spin, zoom, tap
Drag to turn the globe and zoom in close. Your first tap is your answer, so line it up before you commit.
Watch the distance
An arc runs from your tap to the real city. Within 25 km is a perfect 100; within 150 km still counts as a hit.
Finish the five
Later rounds are worth double and triple. Add them up, share the card, and deal five new cities.
A few things to know
What is MapTap Unlimited?
A free online geography game played on a spinning globe. You are given the name of a city and its country, you tap where you think it is, and the game measures how far off you were. Five cities make a run, and a new run is always one tap away, so there is no daily limit to wait out.
How are points calculated?
Every tap earns between 0 and 100 depending on the distance to the real city: 25 km or closer is a perfect 100, and the score curves down to zero at 5,000 km. Rounds one and two count once, round three counts double and rounds four and five count triple, which adds up to a maximum of 1,000 per run.
What counts as a hit?
Anything within 150 km of the city. A hit lights the round on the progress bar and gets the target emoji in your share card, but the points still come from the exact distance, so a 20 km tap is worth more than a 140 km one.
Which cities can come up?
A pool of 498 places drawn from the public-domain Natural Earth dataset: national capitals plus the biggest cities on every continent. They are sorted into three bands by population. A run opens with two well-known Easy places, moves to a Medium one and finishes with two Hard picks that are worth three times as much.
Does the globe show country names or borders?
Borders and coastlines, but no labels. The prompt always tells you the country, so the real question is where inside that country the city sits. Zooming in before you tap is usually worth it: at close range a small nudge can be worth dozens of points.
Can I play without a mouse or touchscreen?
Yes. Focus the globe and use the arrow keys to spin it, plus and minus to zoom, and Enter to drop your pin on the crosshair in the centre. The result panel and the Next button are reachable with Tab like any other control.
Is my best score saved?
Your best run, your closest ever tap and your run count are stored in this browser only. There is no account and nothing is sent to a server. Reloading the page starts fresh from the intro screen, so finish a run before you leave it.
Is this the daily MapTap?
No. MapTap Unlimited is an independent, fan-made remake that lets you play as many runs as you like, built with open map data and our own globe. It is not affiliated with the daily MapTap or with maptap.gg.
